St. Laurences National School Chapelizod is under the patronage of the Church of Ireland.

The school day begins at 8.50 a.m.  and ends at 2.30 p.m. for pupils between 1st class and 6th class. Junior and Senior Infants begin at 8.50 a.m. and finish at 1.30 p.m.

The school building has been in existence for over two hundred  years . Originally a Catholic Prayer House it was purchased by The Church of Ireland  over a century ago and has been used as a school ever since. St.Laurences National School is committed to the education and wellbeing of each child under its care. We pride ourselves on the high quality of education delivered by teaching staff and the warm, attractive learning environment in which the pupils spend their school days.

Teaching staff place great emphasis on teaching the revised curriculum in its full capacity to the highest of standards. The teaching staff employ the ‘Follow Me’ programme in class as part of their religious instruction of the pupils. This programme supports the Church of Ireland Ethos of the school. The pupils of the school take part in various sporting  initiatives with trained professionals . They also participate in recorder lessons from first to sixth classes.

The school  has a very active Parent Teacher Association. The PTA raised over ten thousand Euros for the school through previous fund raising initiatives.  Under the direction of the new school principal the school building and grounds are scheduled to painted between now and the summer holidays.

The school has purchased new school furniture for the pupils which is to be funded by the dedicated PTA. The school has recently purchased a wide variety of P.E. equipment which will enable teaching staff to implement all strands of the P.E. curriculum with exciting , new resources. An entire new range of science equipment has been ordered to facilitate the complete primary school science curriculum being taught effectively. A selection of  suitable ICT materials have been purchased to develop numeracy and literacy skills throughout the school and make learning enjoyable and interactive. Each classroom comes equipped with a large whiteboard and visualiser.

The school also possesses enough laptops and desktops for individual use by pupils. There is a beautiful garden in the school yard. Pupils are encouraged to take part in planting bulbs and maintaining the garden as part of their SESE education. St. Laurences N.S. has an extensive children’s library catering for the literary requirements of all pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth class.

The school has a modern library system in place which employs full use of technological resources . Pupils are encouraged to borrow library books regularly using their library card .  Class teachers have worked diligently to ensure that the classroom is a  visually stimulating and print rich learning environment. Teaching staff have recently initiated a ‘buddy reading’ system between junior and senior pupils to encourage enjoyment of the reading process .
