Engineer’s Week 2018 ran from 24th February to 2nd March and we at St Laurence’s certainly got into the spirit of things with some pretty amazing activities……

We had a had a visit and photo presentation from Niamh and Glenn, who work with Dublin City Council as Civil and Structural Engineers. Senior pupils had the opportunity to ask them questions about their roles and find out more about local engineering projects.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All pupils paired up to participate in an EGG DROP CHALLENGE, where they designed and built structures that they hoped would keep their eggs safe when they were later dropped from a height! Most of the eggs survived, demonstrating the children’s Egg-sellent Engineering skills…

It was then construction time with the senior room pupils using various materials, incl straws and pasta to make stand alone structures.  Take a look at our bridges, lamp post, wind turbine and other constructions……
